Education and training for SEPRONA
As a result of a joint operation with SEPRONA in a case concerning the welfare of a donkey in Burgos, specific training on equine welfare and legal issues was requested. In response to this demand, on 21 February, the team from Refugio del Burrito organized a training session for the command in Burgos. The objective was to facilitate the adaptation of the force to legislative changes and provide solutions to the daily challenges faced by the authorities.
The training was conducted by Dr Aritz Toribio, a renowned expert in animal legal protection, with eight years of experience collaborating closely with various organizations, including the Civil Guard, the National Police, and several entities dedicated to animal rights defence.
Throughout the day, there was an in-depth exploration of identifying signs of abuse in equines, analysing the implications of the new animal protection law on SEPRONA’s work, and clarifying doubts regarding the interpretation and application of certain legal articles, as well as procedures related to reports, records, and seizures.
Our organization is committed to continuing to offer support to the authorities in order to collaborate nationally in improving the welfare of donkeys and mules through political, educational, and investigative actions. We aim to centralize this type of training and continue strengthening our collaboration in the future.
We express our gratitude to SEPRONA for their interest and commitment to promoting the welfare of equines in Spain.
