Discover how we improve the lives of donkeys every day
Our UK headquarters
Our sanctuaries in the UK are where it all began. The world-leading veterinary, research, education, and welfare teams help us deliver happy, healthy donkeys in our care and the community.
Our Spanish home
El Refugio del Burrito was founded in 2003 and has been working in Spain ever since to create a world where all donkeys have a good quality of life.
Our commitment is to be able to offer help to any donkey or mule that, as a result of abandonment, illness, cruelty or any other reason, is in need of it. We carry out investigations and campaigns to stop the cruelty, ill or unnatural treatment these animals are still unfortunately suffering.
We are actively involved in causes that advocate for the enforcement and improvement of existing equine welfare laws, as well as the dissemination of clinical knowledge about donkeys to veterinarians and other professionals.
Our work around the world
We share our expertise and knowledge worldwide to support the quality of life for donkeys and the communities who live alongside them. We learn from their cultural wisdom about caring for donkeys and share that too.
Advocating for donkeys
We work with and influence governments and legislative bodies all across the world to improve the safety and welfare of donkeys and mules.
